Visualizing Japan's Shinkansen Network in Motion

The Shinkansen is the most famous railway on Earth, and the Tokaido line between Tokyo and Osaka is its busiest stretch, with a bullet train every few minutes all day long. Recreated as a map animation, it makes a hypnotic travel intro, explainer graphic, or recap shot.

Lay the Tokaido line

  1. Open the Route dock and add the classic stops in order: Tokyo, Shin-Yokohama, Nagoya, Kyoto, and Shin-Osaka.
  2. Set every leg to Train mode in Route Builder so the path hugs the corridor instead of arcing over it.
  3. Keep per-leg durations short and even. The Shinkansen's whole character is constant speed, so skip any dramatic slowdowns between stations.

Ride low with a chase cam

A top-down view wastes the sensation of speed. In the Camera panel, use Camera Director to add a follow shot with a low tilt, so the frame skims behind the train marker like trackside footage. Open with one wide establishing shot over Tokyo, then drop into the chase for the run to Osaka.

A tale of two railroads

For a longer video, pair this modern corridor with the transcontinental railroad on a map. The 1869 line proved a continent could be crossed by rail; this network perfected the idea.

Finish in Theme Studio with a style that matches the real line colors, Tokaido blue on white, so the route reads as instantly as the real thing.
