Terms of Service. Plain English where it matters.

These Terms of Service govern your use of Mappi Studio. They cover your account, subscriptions, what you can create, what you can do with your exports, and the rules that keep the platform fair for everyone.

Terms of Service

Welcome to Mappi Studio (“Mappi”, “we”, “our”, or “us”). Mappi is a browser-based tool that lets you create animated map videos and export them as MP4 files. These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) form a legally binding agreement between you (“you” or “your”) and Mappi, and apply every time you visit our website, sign in to your account, or use any feature of the Mappi service (collectively, the “Service”).

Please read these Terms carefully. By creating an account, signing in, subscribing to a paid plan, or otherwise using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy and Refund Policy, which are incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to any additional guidelines, policies, or rules we publish from time to time on mappi.studio. These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the Service, including users on the free plan and paid Mappi Pro subscribers.

If you are using the Service on behalf of a company, organization, or other entity, you represent that you have the authority to bind that entity to these Terms, and “you” will refer to both you individually and that entity.

2. Who can use Mappi

To use the Service, you must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required to consent to the processing of personal data in your country). If you are under the age of majority where you live, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to use the Service, and they must agree to these Terms on your behalf.

You must also have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract and not be barred from using the Service under any applicable law. Mappi is not available to users who have previously been suspended or removed from the Service.

3. Your Mappi account

Some features of the Service require a Mappi account. You can create an account using email and password or by signing in with a supported third-party identity provider (such as Google) via OAuth. When you create an account, you agree to provide accurate and current information and to keep that information up to date.

Account security

You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account, whether or not authorized by you. Do not share your password or session with others. Notify us immediately at support@mappi.studio if you suspect unauthorized use of your account or any other security incident. We will not be liable for losses caused by unauthorized use that resulted from your failure to keep your credentials secure.

Single account, single user

Each Mappi account is intended for use by a single user. Sharing a single account across multiple individuals or distributing your credentials to circumvent our subscription model is not permitted.

4. The Mappi Service

Mappi provides tools to design, customize, preview, and render animated map videos. The Service includes, among other things: a browser-based map editor, place and route search powered by third-party providers, customizable map themes and animations, and a render pipeline that produces downloadable MP4 video files.

Specific features and limits depend on the plan you are on. We may add, remove, or change features at any time at our reasonable discretion. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to maintain the availability of the Service but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Maintenance windows, third-party outages, and unforeseen technical issues may cause temporary unavailability.

5. Plans, subscriptions, and billing

5.1 Free plan

Mappi offers a free plan that allows unlimited exports at lower resolutions (e.g. 420p and 720p) and may include a Mappi watermark. Free plan limits, watermark behavior, and supported features may change over time as we improve the Service.

5.2 Mappi Pro

Mappi Pro is a paid subscription that unlocks additional functionality, which may include higher-resolution exports (such as 1080p and up to 4K), watermark-free renders, transparent backgrounds, and other premium features as listed on our pricing page. The exact set of features included in Mappi Pro at any given time is described on the pricing page and may evolve.

5.3 Billing, taxes, and payment processor

Paid plans are billed in advance on a recurring monthly or annual basis through our payment processor, Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize Mappi and Stripe to charge your selected payment method for the subscription fees, plus any applicable taxes, currency conversion fees, or bank charges. Mappi does not store your full payment card details; payment information is collected and processed by Stripe under their terms and security standards.

5.4 Auto-renewal

Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) at the then-current rate, unless you cancel before the renewal date. You can cancel or change your plan at any time from the pricing page or your account settings.

5.5 Price changes

We may change subscription prices from time to time. If we change the price of a plan you are subscribed to, we will give you reasonable advance notice (for example, by email or in-app notice) before the change applies to your next renewal. If you do not agree to a price change, you may cancel your subscription before the change takes effect.

5.6 Failed payments

If a payment fails, we may retry the charge, downgrade your account to the free plan, or suspend access to paid features until the outstanding amount is paid. You remain responsible for any unpaid amounts owed to us.

6. Cancellations and refunds

You can cancel your Mappi Pro subscription at any time from the pricing page or your account settings. After cancellation, you will keep access to your paid features until the end of the current billing period, after which your account will revert to the free plan.

Refunds are available under our Refund Policy, which is incorporated by reference into these Terms. In summary, we offer a 3-day money-back window on initial monthly and annual purchases, provided you have not yet exported a video from your account. Renewals and exported accounts are not eligible for refunds. Please review our Refund Policy for full eligibility, timelines, and how to request a refund.

7. Your content and projects

7.1 You own your content

When you use Mappi, you may add destinations, routes, labels, custom pins, images, brand assets, configurations, and other inputs (collectively, “User Content”). You retain all rights, title, and interest in and to your User Content. We do not claim ownership of your projects, your routes, or the videos you export.

7.2 License you grant to Mappi

To operate the Service, you grant Mappi a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, store, copy, transmit, render, encode, transcode, display, and process your User Content solely for the purpose of providing, securing, troubleshooting, and improving the Service for you, and as otherwise described in our Privacy Policy. This license ends when you delete your User Content or close your account, except to the extent we are required to retain limited copies for legal, audit, billing, or backup purposes.

7.3 Your responsibility for content

You are solely responsible for your User Content, including ensuring that you have all necessary rights, licenses, and permissions to use and upload it. You represent and warrant that your User Content does not violate these Terms, applicable law, or any third-party rights (including intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights).

8. Your exported videos and outputs

Subject to your compliance with these Terms and full payment of any applicable fees, you own the animated map videos you create and export with Mappi (“Outputs”). You may use your Outputs for any lawful purpose, including personal, commercial, editorial, and client work. Paid Mappi Pro Outputs are delivered watermark-free.

However, your right to use Outputs is subject to the licensing terms of any third-party data, imagery, or content embedded in those Outputs (for example, base map data, routing data, place data, fonts, icons, or stock imagery). You are responsible for ensuring your end use complies with the relevant third-party licenses, including any required attribution. We make no representation that your Outputs are free of third-party rights restrictions.

You may not resell or sublicense Mappi itself, the Service, or render capacity. Selling your Outputs as part of a wider creative deliverable (a video, ad, presentation, course, etc.) is allowed; reselling raw Mappi exports as standalone stock content is not.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Service. In particular, you must not, and must not allow anyone else to:

  • Use the Service to violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right, including intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or data protection rights.
  • Upload, generate, or distribute content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, threatening, sexually explicit involving minors, deceptive, or designed to incite violence or discrimination.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any account, system, or data; probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service; or bypass any access or rate-limiting controls.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code, models, or underlying ideas of the Service, except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law.
  • Use the Service to build a competing product, train machine learning models on our outputs, or scrape, crawl, or otherwise extract data from the Service in bulk.
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or place an unreasonable load on the Service, the render pipeline, our servers, or our network, including via automated tools, denial-of-service techniques, or excessive concurrent renders.
  • Misrepresent your identity, impersonate any person or entity, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity.
  • Use the Service to generate misleading geographic, electoral, or political claims, or to fabricate locations, routes, or events in a way intended to deceive viewers.
  • Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the Service itself, our APIs, or our render capacity without our prior written permission.
  • Remove, obscure, or alter any proprietary notices, watermarks, or attributions that the Service or its third-party providers require to be displayed.

We may, at our reasonable discretion, investigate suspected violations and take action including content removal, throttling, suspension, or termination of accounts.

10. Mappi’s intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, look and feel, branding, logos, copy, motion patterns, map themes provided by us, default templates, animations, and underlying technology, is the property of Mappi or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property and other laws. Except for the limited rights expressly granted to you in these Terms, no rights are transferred to you.

You may not use the “Mappi” name, the Mappi logo, or any other Mappi trademarks or trade dress without our prior written permission. Nothing in these Terms grants you a right to use any of our trademarks, trade names, service marks, or logos for any purpose.

11. Third-party services and map data

The Service relies on third-party providers and data sources, including (without limitation): Supabase for authentication and database, Vercel for hosting, Stripe for payments, Google Places and related APIs for place search and details, MapLibre GL and the PMTiles vector tile format for map rendering, Protomaps and OpenStreetMap data for base maps, and routing providers for GPS-accurate paths. Your use of those services is subject to their respective terms.

We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, content, or practices of third-party services. If a third-party provider changes or discontinues its service, the affected Mappi feature may change or become unavailable. You are responsible for complying with any attribution or other licensing requirements imposed by third-party data providers when you publish your Outputs.

12. Map data and geographic information

Mappi uses third-party map and routing data which may contain inaccuracies, omissions, or be out of date. The Service is intended for storytelling and creative use only. You must not rely on Mappi map data, routes, place information, borders, or labels for navigation, emergency response, aviation, maritime, military, surveying, engineering, real-world routing decisions, or any other use where inaccurate geographic information could cause loss, injury, or harm.

Borders, region labels, and disputed territories are rendered using third-party data and do not represent any political position by Mappi. You are responsible for any editorial decisions you make about how regions, borders, or territories are depicted in your Outputs.

13. Feedback

If you send us suggestions, ideas, feature requests, or other feedback about the Service, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, fully sublicensable license to use that feedback for any purpose, including improving the Service, without obligation or compensation to you. You waive any moral rights in such feedback to the extent permitted by law.

14. Beta and experimental features

From time to time we may offer features that are labeled as “beta”, “preview”, “experimental”, or similar. Those features are provided for evaluation, may be unstable, may change or be discontinued at any time, and are provided “as is” without any warranties. We may also impose additional terms specific to a beta feature.

16. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal information. By using the Service, you consent to our processing of your information as described in the Privacy Policy.

17. Service availability and changes

We are continuously improving the Service. We may add, modify, suspend, or remove features, plans, pricing, integrations, or limits at any time at our reasonable discretion. We may also impose limits on certain features or restrict your access to parts of the Service without notice and without liability, including to protect the integrity of the Service or to comply with law.

18. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. Closing your account will not refund any amounts already paid except as described in our Refund Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your account or access to the Service, with or without notice, if (a) we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, (b) we are required to do so by law, (c) your account creates a security or operational risk to us or other users, or (d) we discontinue the Service. Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately end, and we may delete your User Content and account data in accordance with our retention policies.

Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including provisions on intellectual property, your representations and warranties, disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, and governing law.

19. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE, INCLUDING ALL FEATURES, MAP DATA, OUTPUTS, AND CONTENT MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE SERVICE, IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MAPPI DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTIES ARISING OUT OF COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE.

Mappi does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free from viruses or other harmful components, that defects will be corrected, or that any specific result will be achieved through the use of the Service. You use the Service at your own risk.

20. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL MAPPI, ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR LICENSORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS, LOST REVENUE, LOST DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE, WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STATUTE, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, AND WHETHER OR NOT MAPPI HAS BEEN INFORMED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MAPPI’S TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO MAPPI FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (USD 100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you. In such cases, our liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

21. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Mappi, its affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with (a) your use of the Service, (b) your User Content or Outputs, (c) your violation of these Terms or any applicable law, or (d) your violation of any third-party right, including any intellectual property, privacy, or publicity right.

22. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.

Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service that cannot be resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you and Mappi consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. Where applicable law grants you a non-waivable right to bring proceedings in your country of residence or to benefit from mandatory consumer protections, nothing in these Terms limits those rights.

You and Mappi agree that any claim must be brought in an individual capacity and not as part of a class, consolidated, or representative action, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

23. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice (such as an email or in-product notice). Changes take effect when posted unless stated otherwise. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service.

24. Miscellaneous

Entire agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Refund Policy and any other policies referenced here, constitute the entire agreement between you and Mappi regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

No waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not be considered a waiver of that right or provision.

Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms or any of your rights or obligations under them without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets.

Force majeure

We will not be liable for any failure or delay in performance caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including acts of God, natural disasters, war, terrorism, riots, civil unrest, government action, labor disputes, internet or telecommunications outages, or third-party service failures.

Electronic communications

You agree that we may communicate with you electronically, including by email, in-product notices, and posts on our website, and that those electronic communications satisfy any legal requirement that such communications be in writing.
