The Travel Vlogger's Guide to Route Map Animations

Your audience won't remember the airport B-roll. They remember where the trip went. A route map animation turns a ten-city recap into fifteen seconds every viewer understands instantly, and it works as an opener, a chapter break, or an outro.

One project, every city

Drop every stop of the trip into Route Builder from the bottom dock, in travel order. Mix the modes honestly: fly the long hauls, drive the coast roads, and take the train where you actually did. The mixed icons and line styles make the recap feel like the trip rather than a diagram.

Cut it for every platform

The same project exports at multiple aspect ratios, so build once and deliver everywhere. Render a 16:9 pass for your main channel (the full workflow is in this guide to an animated travel map video for YouTube), then switch the canvas and export a vertical map animation for TikTok without rebuilding a thing.

Pacing rules that keep viewers watching

  1. Keep each leg under four seconds; recaps die when legs drag.
  2. Pause for a beat on the two or three stops where you have the best footage, and cut to it.
  3. End zoomed out on the complete route. It's the money frame and the natural thumbnail.

When the flat top-down view starts feeling static, hand the shot to Camera Director and let it orbit your favorite stop.
