Mapping Route 66: Animate America's Classic Road Trip

Route 66 ran 2,448 miles through eight states before the interstates retired it, and it still might be the best-looking line you can draw on a map. Here's how to animate the Mother Road end to end.

Lay down the Mother Road

1. Open Route Builder from the bottom dock, set the mode to Drive, and start in Chicago.
2. Add the landmark stops that define the trip: St. Louis, Tulsa, Amarillo's Cadillac Ranch, Albuquerque, Flagstaff, then Santa Monica Pier.

Ride along, don't hover

A top-down view wastes this route. In Camera Director, add a follow shot with a low tilt so the camera chases the line across the plains, then cut to a slow zoom-in reveal at the pier for the finale.

Period-correct styling

Warm asphalt tones, cream land, and a muted red route line sell the 1950s postcard look. Modern blues and greens break the spell immediately.
