How to Export Transparent Background Map Animations

The most useful map animation is often the one without a background: an overlay you can float over drone footage, a talking head, or a studio feed with no green-screen keying involved. One export setting is all it takes.

Export with a real alpha channel

1. Finish your animation, then open the Export popover and choose transparent WebM instead of MP4.
2. Render in the cloud at 60 fps. The alpha channel is preserved per frame by Mappi's render engine, so route edges and label halos stay clean against any backdrop.
3. Drop the file onto a track above your footage in any editor that supports WebM alpha (Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, and OBS all do). It composites instantly, with no keying or matte cleanup.

Design for the overlay

An overlay lives on top of unpredictable footage, so favor bold routes, strong label halos, and restrained land detail. Whatever sits behind the map should never have to fight it for attention, and you rarely know what that will be in advance.
